PANJIM, JULY 13
Two days after the National Students Union of India(NSUI) president Sunil Kautankar demanded a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the police-drug mafia nexus, he was issued summons order by the Crime Branch today.
His statement was in the backdrop of media reports that quoted Lucky Farmhouse alleging Home Minister Ravi Naik’s son Roy’s involvement in the nexus.
Lucky, a Swedish model, is also the former girlfriend of the recently bailed out alleged drug peddler Yaniv Benaim a.k. a Atala.
In an unexpected move, the Crime Branch issued him summons to appear before the investigating sleuths tomorrow. Speaking to Herald, Kautankar claimed this move was to suppress his viewpoints.
“This is to suppress my signature campaign against the miserable police probe into the drug nexus,” he said.
Kauntankar further announced it would hand over the signatures to Congress president Sonia Gandhi and All India Congress Committee general secretary Rahul Gandhi in the forthcoming NSUI convention.
When contacted the Deputy Superintendent of Police Chandrakant Salgaonkar refused to comment.
NSUI, a Congress party  student wing had come down heavily on the police probe stating it was maligning the image of the government. It therefore demanded the probe to be either investigated by National Investigating Agency or Central Bureau of Investigation.
The student’s wing further demanded action against Salgaonkar for allegedly sabotaging the nexus probe.
State Congress president Subhash Shirodkar, speaking to Herald today evening said he will be discussing the matter with the Chief Minister Digambar Kamat and Home Minister Ravi Naik.
