PANJIM: Members of the National Student’s Union of India (NSUI) were detained by Agassaim Police, on Monday, after they had staged a protest at Goa University campus demanding that Post Graduate (PG) exams be held online.

The students and activists led by NSUI Goa unit President Naushad Chowdhari, who were later released by Agassaim Police, vowed to continue supporting the affected PG students.

Chowdhari reiterated that given the prevailing pandemic, the students cannot be made to answer their exams in an offline mode and that such type of police action will not stop them from protesting against it.

Emphasising that the exams should be held online, the NSUI gave the example of other top ranked universities in India that are conducting exams in an online mode, and questioned why the 81st ranked GU wants to hold the exams in an offline mode.

They further spoke about the possibility of the third wave and how students are still suffering from various COVID-related issues, be it being in home isolation themselves or having their parents in the hospitals.

They also spoke about the transport and other logistics issues.

The NSUI questioned why Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, who is also the Education Minister, is silent on the matter and that he should hold a meeting with the GU Registrar and Vice Chancellor and come out with a solution in the interest of student’s safety.
