PANJIM: In view of Goa University’s (GU) disappointing National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) ranking, Congress students’ wing has raised the matter with GU Chancellor and Goa Governor Mridula Sinha seeking an explanation on the drop.
National Students Union of India, Goa unit President Ahraz Mulla has written to Chancellor, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and GU Vice Chancellor Prof Varun Sahni expressing its disappointment to the just-released NIRF ranking.
“On behalf of all the students of Goa, NSUI is writing this letter to your authority seeking an explanation on the reason as to why the Goa University ranking has come down this year. It has been reported that the ranking has come down to 93 from 68 within a year. On several accounts the students of Goa are presenting their grievances to Goa University which are never being addressed by the Chancellor of the University,” the letter states.
“The major problems… being (delay in announcing) results on time, very high re-evaluation fees, convocation certificates of students not being given on time, manipulated student election system and absence of functioning grievance cell to address student issues,” Mulla said highlighting various problems on campus.
The NSUI, he said, has full faith in the Chancellor to restore the system and improve GU’s ranking.
