PANJIM: The National Students Union of India (NSUI), State students’ wing of Congress has sought for various concessions for the students in the wake of academic term 2020-21 issued by Goa University.
The online classes commenced from September 1, nearly two months after which GU announced the academic term for under graduate and post graduate courses.
“All the colleges are in race to finish the syllabus of six months in just three and half months through online classes, this has caused many problems. Due to this, teachers are taking full day online classes till late evening making it very stressful and tiring for the students and few colleges are also taking classes on Sundays,” Naushad Chowdhari, president of the NSUI North Goa said.
He stated that due to hectic schedule, the students are not able to understand the portion due to haste teaching process.
“Also due to practicals in offline mode for the final year, the students are facing problem since many students travel by bus and since buses are not sanitised they are at higher risk of getting infected. And also in the colleges, there is no social distancing happening and students need to wear face mask full day from morning to evening, it is suffocation for them especially for the asthma related students,” he said.
The NSUI has thus demanded that the government direct all the colleges to stop late evening classes and classes on Sundays for the final year students since it is stressful and tiring; and to also direct all the colleges to stop practicals for the final year students in offline mode but conduct only twice a week.
“Daily practicals are very risky for the students since students travel by buses which are crowded and not sanitised and also there is no social distancing in the colleges making it more risky. Similarly, reduce the syllabus for final year students for the End Semester Exams. Don’t include ISA/IT syllabus for the Semester Exam,” the NSUI said.
