PANJIM: The National Students’ Union of India (NSUI), students wing of the Congress, has expressed displeasure over government’s alleged failure towards the education sector.
Citing UNESCO report that Goa ranked second in single teacher ratio, the NSUI demanded that the government should divert funds to improve the education system rather than building a new Raj Bhavan, for which consent was granted by Goa Governor P S Sreedharan Pillai, on Friday.
“Education is the key to sustainable development and teachers are the backbone of our educational system. It is disheartening to see that out of the 1,486 schools in the State, 239 schools, that is, 16.08 per cent schools are single-teacher schools,” said NSUI State President Naushad Chowdhari, in a press statement issued on Saturday.
The NSUI alleged that the government works anti-students and is never inclined in the interest and betterment of students.
