PANJIM: NTPC Limited – the Central power generation station – has sanctioned an additional 105 Mega Watts (MW) of power to Goa to be released in a phased manner over a four year period till 2019.
The station is coming up with seven more power plants in addition to the existing seven plants – Vindhyachal, Solapur, Mauda II, Lara I and II, Khargone, Gadarwara I and Dhuvran I and II – with a total power generation capacity of 8040 MW.
The Vindhyachal plant was commissioned last year, with state getting its share of six MW of power. Solapur (21MW), Mauda II (15 MW), Lara I and II (23 MW) will be commissioned by November this year.
The State will receive 17 MW of power from Gadarwara I plant in May-September next year. While in 2019, the Khargone plant is expected to be commissioned from where 9 MW of power would be released to the State.
Goa is expected to spend Rs 2,933.87 crore on purchase of power from these 14 stations up to 2018-19. NTPC is the largest supplier of power to Goa, which at present consist of seven power plants.
In a bid to fulfill its promise of 24×7 power supply, the government is expected to spend Rs 4090 crore on purchase of 12,300 million units (MU) of electricity over the next three years. The State power requirement is going to see a rise of 8.10 percent by 2018-19.
