MARGAO: Citing adverse health effects and claiming that the visibility of motorists will be blocked, locals of Gorotti-Nuvem on Saturday demanded that the authorities shift a mobile network tower located on the road here to a different place, failing which they have threatened to agitate.
Several residents gathered at the site to raise their objections and also alleged that the tower was installed at the spot despite their complaints about it pending before the concerned authority.
Local resident Everson Valles alleged that the concerned network company forcefully installed the tower, ignoring the instructions issued to them by the district collectorate office.
“There are clear cut guidelines that such a mobile network tower cannot be installed at a traffic bottleneck. This location often witnesses major traffic snarls and the tower will further block visibility of commuters, besides posing a health risk to residents,” he said.
The people of Gorotti-Nuvem have been opposing the installation of the said tower for the p ast one year. “This is total goondaism. The concerned company erected the tower with the help of bouncers. They did not respect the stop work order issued by the village panchayat of Nuvem and did not follow the instructions issued by the Magistrate,” alleged Valles.
