NUVEM: The equation is simple, according to the boy who runs hard- Jose aka Raju Cabral. “He just runs and runs”, says George Philip who lives close to the Verna highway, mentioning that this TMC Nuvem candidate is everywhere. And in a constituency of veteran and tried and tested leaders, he is surely a fresh face who has more years ahead of him in politics than behind, something that cannot be said of any of his major opponents
People of Nuvem feel that they have been neglected by the political leaders for the last many years and they have been taken for a ride since many years, said Raju Cabral.
In conversation with Herald at Kirbhat during the door-to-door campaigning he said that people of Nuvem are very much angry and want a change.
“When I go to every door-step, one common thing I hear is that people are very much upset with the issue of defection. People are fed up with the incumbent government and hence they want a new face to lead them,” said Cabral.
According to him, ownership of land is a major issue that has come to light during his interactions with the constituents.
“People here have housing problems. The matter is more acute in Kirbhatt, Nuvem besides small issues pertaining to roads and gutters, which have not been resolved for the last many years. Nothing is in order over here. Lack of proper internal roads in many places of Nuvem constituency,” he stated.
“Three linear projects will be opposed, coal transportation in Utorda, Majorda will be monitored,” he stated. The double tracking of the railways will affect the beautiful Utorda and Majorda villages in his constituency
Cabral knows a thing or two about this project. He was one of the first anti-coal and double tacking activist and seen in virtually every peoples meeting exhorting people to step up the agiatation agaimst ten there linear projects and stop double tracking which will destroy homes and orchards
He also claimed that there is no football ground for the youth, despite having talented budding footballers here.
“There is zero development for the last many years in Nuvem constituency,” claimed Cabral.
Informing about the response from the people, he said that being a young and new face they are feeling happy that somebody has visited them to hear their grievances. Cabral said socio-economic development of the constituency is his main aim.
“My plans are divided into seven categories which include socio-economic development, infrastructure, land issues, fishermen community, agriculture, environment, healthcare and good governance,” he stated.
Cabral further informed that all villages will be provided with a primary healthcare center with access to doctors, pharmacy, diagnostic infrastructure and round-the-clock ambulance service.
“Periodic increment will be done in pension disbursed to the senior citizens, sports veterans who played at the national and State level. They will be provided with financial assistance or preference in government jobs. All the lakes and natural springs will be developed as tourist spots to generate employment opportunities for the locals,” the TMC candidate said.
Adding further he said that the communication network will be improved for better internet and mobile connectivity, Section 16B of the Town and Country Planning Act will be revoked.
“Fuel subsidy will be increased, a fishermen welfare board will be constituted and regular testing of fish for formalin will be done as per the FSSAI norms. In the agricultural sector a regional agriculture office will be established in Nuvem constituency, which will provide all agriculture equipment and machinery on rent to farmers at subsidised rates, besides establishment of a veterinary hospital,” said Cabral.
