MARGAO: Nuvem villagers on Sunday expressed their ire over the failure of the Goa State Pollution Control Board to give satisfactory replies on the use of slag for the construction of the Nuvem bypass.
The issue figured at the Sunday gram sabha when members demanded that the GSPCB give a detailed report on the slag used for the bypass. Sarpanch Reuban D’Costa also expressed his helplessness and informed the members that the GSPCB had failed to give satisfactory replies to letters written by the panchayat body.
Gram sabha member Jose Roque Andrade highlighted the importance of the construction of the bandaras for paddy cultivation. Locals demanded that the panchayat create awareness among villagers on segregated disposal of garbage if the same cannot be successfully collected by the panchayat body. Sarpanch assured the members to create awareness among villagers on garbage disposal with the help of panchayat members. Andrade urged sarpanch that a village master plan be prepared and to write to Chief Minister to speed up with the preparation of the RP 2021.
Activist Zarina D’Cunha accused sarpanch of failing to take action against hill cutting in Nuvem, while Cruz Colaco raised objection to panchayat premises being rented for office to local MLA Mickky Pacheco at a lower rent causing loss to the panchayat exchequer. Resolution was also taken to widen the Runder bandh road. Members of the gram sabha formed a biodiversity management committee of five members
