Nuvem to request MPA, Rlys in putting an end to coal dust pollution caused by wagons

MARGAO: In a significant development, the Nuvem gram sabha resolved that the panchayat should write to the Mormugao Port Authority and Railways via the Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL) to take urgent steps to address the issues of coal dust pollution caused by the railway wagons passing through the village.

“The coal is transported by Railways passing through Nuvem (Murda- Pequeno) and the coal dust from the railway wagons is not only creating pollution in Mormugao/Vasco but also along the railway line through Nuvem.

Therefore, we request strict action and notify the authorities concerned to stop this pollution, which is harmful to the respiratory system and studies have confirmed that this is linked to various kinds of cancers/sickness,” said Jose Roque Andrade, during the meeting presided over by sarpanch Freda D’Sa.

The budget for Financial Year 2024-25 was also

presented and approved with discussions.

The villagers called for creating a budget for CCTV cameras to be installed at selected sites which the locals felt were hotspots for anti-social elements and garbage dumping. They also called for increasing the amount dedicated for garbage management to address the waste dumped by vehicles on the side of the road.

Concerns were raised over the lack of a proper bus stand/shelter, which inconveniences the villagers of Murda-Grande, Mujjar and Guirim vaddo during monsoon  as they take the bus from Nuvem-Majorda road at four-road junction of Murda Grande Bypass.

The sarpanch said necessary action will be taken. The Village Development Plan was also presented with many suggesting that the culvert be repaired, internal road conditions be improved and the water pipeline be replaced.
