NYC forms new team for grassroot work

The youth wing of the State Nationalist Congress Party, the Nationalist Youth Congress, on Thursday declared its much-promised team to take programmes and policies of the party to the grassroots level.
NCP President Surendra Sirsat making an announcement of the formation of the new team said the same would strive to deal with issues afflicting the youth in the State.
Women’s Wing in-charge for Goa and national secretary Bharati Chavan said the party supremo Sharad Pawar knew the importance of participation of women in politics and had called for their strong reservation at every level of functioning.
Chavan said even in the State team of the NYC one will get to see young women’s reservation. “At the national level too the NCP was attracting a lot of youth to the party fold and unlike in the past in today’s scenario MLAs are as young as ever,” she stated.
State NYC President Tanveer Khatib, who came in for much praise from national secretary NCP Jeetendra Deshprabhu for getting many youth to the party fold, said today the new team would discuss the new policy in the context of local youth. Earlier, Khatib had said the team will decide on the policy document having everything meant for guarding the interests of the youth.
While speaking at today’s function, coordinator for the youth team and general secretary Avinash Bhonsle called upon the youth to carry forward the thought of the party without looking at the individuals. “True leaders are those who work at the grass roots level and not the ones that attain positions via recommendations,” he stated.
The State team of the NYC for 2010-2012 comprises of Tanveer Khatib (president), Nitesh Pandit (working president and chief spokesperson), Greg Fernandes (senior vice president), Chandrajit Sapre, Ram Mandrekar, Amrish Bamne (all vice presidents), Kunal Sagarkar (vice president-media), Gautam Karekar (general secretary), Tanuja Halwai (general secretary-media), Rupesh Vazarkar, Pratap Gad, Gitesh Naik (all general secretaries), Santosh Divkar (general secretary-PR), Joseph Lobo, Sonam Nayak, Rupesh Khojuvekar, Neil Fernandes, Sera Fernandes, Amer Shirodkar, Satish Gaonkar (all secretaries), Amit Jog (secretary-students welfare), Nilesh D’Souza, Milind Shirodkar, Narendra Korgaonkar, Norman D’Souza and Kanta Jadhav (all joint secretaries).
