PANJIM: The State Electricity Department has finally taken cognisance of a viral video and O Heraldo reportage on the saline water fetched from River Mandovi, which was used to prepare concrete mixes for laying the foundation for the electric poles along the Mandovi promenade in the capital city.
The video and O Heraldo reportage has prompted the department to direct the contractor to rectify the error and lay new foundation for the electric poles.
When O Heraldo contacted the department’s Executive Engineer, he informed that the contractor has been told to lay the new foundation for the electric poles as people have raised apprehension over the durability of the same, which were to be installed on those foundations for which the contractor had used saline water.
Presently, the contractor has dug up holes along the Mandovi promenade to lay a new foundation under the direct supervision of a Junior Engineer from the department. The department is carrying out the repair/replacement of streetlight fixtures and poles along the Mandovi promenade as part of preparations for the G20 Summit.
