Naveen S L told the media that the civic body will clean up the municipal building passages of all obstructions, including scrap material within two days. “This scrap has been lying in the building passage a long time now. Let us start the drive against encroachments by cleaning our backyard first,” he said, while promising to clear the scrap material from the municipal passages within two days.
On the anti-encroachment drive in the city markets, Naveeen said the anti-encroachment drive is an ongoing process which will be continued in phases. “We have identified certain core issues relating to the encroachments. We are examining the issues, including sopo payers and will initiate action accordingly,” he added.
Asked to outline his stand on the goods seized during anti-encroachment drive, Naveen said he has mooted a proposal to set up a warehouse at the Municipal land at Sonsodo to store goods seized during encroachment drive. He also disclosed plans to propose to the council steep fines to dissuade the shop keepers from encroaching in public places. “The very purpose behind the anti-encroachment drive will be defeated if the goods are returned back without any action. If goods are returned back without levying heavy fines, there’s a possibility that the goods will return back on the pavements and footpaths again,” he added.
