PANJIM: The State government has asked the organisers of the ticketing events to obtain separate liquor licences and the failure to do so will attract penal action.
In a press statement issued by the Directorate of Information & Publicity, the Excise Department asked the ‘event organisers organising events in which entry of general public is restricted by means of sale of ticket or registration, would require obtaining a separate licence from the local taluka excise station.’
Excise Department’s regular teams and Special Flying squads will keep a check on all types of violations of Goa Excise Duty Act 1964 and Rules to book cases against the violators.
In the last 3 weeks, 18 cases of illegal sale of liquor have been booked. “Hence, cases of different violations have been registered resulting in seizure of 25,000 litres of liquor and imposing heavy fines on the violators. Therefore, restaurant, hotel owners and event organisers are warned not to start sale of liquor without obtaining appropriate licence from the department and all licence holders are directed to strictly follow the rules, terms and conditions of the licence issued to them,” adds the statement.
