Occupants panic as MPA set to demolish five houses at Bogda

VASCO: Five houses situated at Bogda, Mormugao face demolition by the Mormugao Port Authority (MPA) even as the occupants have demanded their rehabilitation.

The axe of these five houses comes after partial demolition of 22 houses at Dabolim by the MPDA and Indian Navy.

Mormugao MLA Sankalp Amonkar alleged that the central organisations located in the port town were harassing the residents. On one side the Indian Navy is harassing villagers of Dabolim and demolishing their houses while, now the public-sector undertaking MPA is set to demolish five houses situated in his constituency.

Amonkar said that MPA has suddenly realised and claimed that the land where these houses are situated belongs to them. In the pastl the MPA raised objections at Baina beach, on temples and even houses. He demanded that the MPA should protect these houses on humanitarian grounds and continue to maintain cordial relation with the locals.

“It is my responsibility to safeguard the houses. I have spoken to Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and he has assured me that there will be no demolition. I will not allow demolition of any house in the area,” he said.

Amonkar stated that he requested the Chief Minister to rehabilitate the families of these five houses only in case the demolition was inevitable.
