CUNCOLIM: Cyclone Ockhi effect was also felt on Monday in Nuem and Rajbag areas of Quepem constituency as several coconut trees and other fruit bearing ones got uprooted following gusty winds.
Locals informed that they have incurred heavy losses due to gusty winds as the sea water entered some of their houses, located close to sea at Nuem and have demanded that they be compensated by the government for the losses.
The government has already started assessing the loss in Salcete’s coastal areas. Locals in Nuem and Rajbag areas said government should not be concerned only about the shack owners but instead should carry out total assessment of loss incurred due to the cyclone Ockhi.
Meanwhile, fishing vessels lay anchored at the jetty due to rough weather. It is expected that by Wednesday the situation would be normal and the fishing vessels might venture into the sea.
