PANJIM: According to the police, the Anti-Narcotic Cell on Tuesday evening conducted a narcotic raid at Guirim, Mapusa, and nabbed the 19-year-old Odisha native with a consignment of 10 kg of ganja worth Rs 10 lakh in the international market.
The accused Ranit Paulo Nayak had come to Goa only a week back along with the contraband. He immediately found himself a job as a helper in a local restaurant at Mapusa.
Preliminary interrogation revealed that the accused bought the contraband from Odisha as it is available at a cheaper rate there and came with it to Goa for further sale and distribution. However, he was constantly being monitored by the ANC sleuths through technical surveillance and human intelligence. A trap was laid and he was successfully nabbed along with the contraband in his possession.
The ANC has continued its stringent action against drug trafficking. The last week of December saw the Anti-Narcotic Cell conducting four raids in six days seizing narcotics worth more than Rs 1.5 crore.
The raid was conducted and led by PSI Manjunath Naik along with constables Nitesh Mulgaonkar, Mandar Naik, Sandesh Volvoikar, Amit Salunke, Laxman Mhamal, Yuvraj Betkekar, Krishna Varak and constable/driver Kundan Patekar.
under the guidance of PI (ANC) Sajith Pillai and under the supervision of DySP (ANC) Nerlon Albuquerque and overall supervision of SP (ANC) Bossuet Silva.
Lady PSI Priyanka Garodi is further investigating the case.
