MARGAO: Asserting that BJP’s soft-pedaling on the Ruby Residency tragedy and the reasons for failure to arrest the builders are now becoming clear, Congress Legislature Party (CLP) spokesman Reginaldo Lourenco said, even as he maintained Goan officials are being made scapegoats in the Canacona building collapse case only to protect the big builders.
Terming as mere eyewash the so-called police attempts to trace the absconding builders, Reginaldo said the BJP claim that the disaster was an accident is untenable since the buildings have been designed by qualified engineers and architects. “There cannot be any accident. The allegations that the builders had financed the Vijai Sankalp Rally of Modi in Goa now stands established as there is no other reasons why the BJP should go against all the evidence that the disaster is man-made”, he told the media.
He said Goan officers are being detained without any valid cause. “The municipal chief officers merely sign the approval plans after the same are approved by the technical personnel and the CO has no right to reject the duly approved plans. The allegation against one of the officers is that he had granted license within one day. It may be noted that about 2-3 months ago, the Sanguem Mamlatdar had granted mutation in survey records to the Chief Minister’s son. Is that not an offence?” he asked, while saying that the entire bureaucracy now stands demoralised and it does not augur well for Goa. Saying that the judiciary is being allegedly misled by hired prosecutors through fabricated evidence by the investigating officers, Reginaldo said the fascist tendencies of the BJP are clearly evident, adding that meting injustice has become the order of the day.
The CLP spokesman also raised doubts whether the labourer arrested for the murder of Ms Pagi in Canacona was the real culprit. “The real truth will come only upon conviction of the accused and not merely by his arrest”, he added.
