MARGAO: The Taluka level Coastal Monitoring Committee on Wednesday inspected the blocking of access to the Carmona beach and the report is expected within a week disclosed Socorro Miranda, the chairman of the Carmona Social Welfare Association.

The Coastal Management Committee includes officials from the Forest Department, Land Survey Department, Mamlatdar representing the collector and officials of the committee along with around 10 villagers inspected the site and took measurements of the length of barbed wire fencing and compound wall.

Socorro Miranda had complained to the Collector of the blocking of access to the beach vide a letter dated August 20, 2019 in which he stated that a compound wall and barbed wire fencing has been done in a Coastal Regulation Zone area following which the inspection was undertaken on Wednesday.

Only former sarpanch Savita Mascarenhas was amongst the panchayat members present for the inspection. Sarpanch Allwyn Jorge pointed out that the panchayat was not a party to the matter and that nobody informed the panchayat about the inspection except for some messages sent on social media.

However, Socorro refuted that claim and said he had personally spoken to the sarpanch about the inspection over the phone and then ensured that a message was also sent to him.
