SANGUEM: The vigilant citizens from Sanguem who have their agricultural plantation and paddy fields at Cottarli ward of Uguem panchayat have bitterly complained of the illegal constructions coming up on government land at Cotarli.
Acting on the complaint lodged by the farming community, officials from Block Development Office and Uguem panchayat inspected the site on Thursday and took stock of the situation.
Incidentally, during the inspection two houses which are illegally constructed on the government property were found locked.
A closer look at one of the two houses revealed that the house was equipped with a television set and other household items making it aptly clear that someone is occupying the illegally constructed house.
Sources informed that the house particularly stands occupied at night but one does not know the activities being conducted in the illegally built houses.
Ironically, the issue of the illegal construction of houses at Cotarli has hot some time back. But the issue took a back seat for reasons best known to the panchayat authorities. Last time, when the issue was raised by the locals led by Constancio Mascarenhas and Santan Rodrigues, police authorities had visited the site but nothing happened after that.
Uguem Sarpanch has however assured of his support to the villagers and getting desired action in the matter.
“Surprisingly, both the houses which have come up at the site are constructed by non-Goans. But it is given to understand that the constructions are being carried allegedly with due influence of a local who has extracted money from the non-Goans for a favour,” claimed Constancio Mascarenhas.
The farmers have called not only for desired action against the persons involved in illegal constructions but also have sought demolition of the two illegal constructions which have come up at the site to prevent more such structures from coming up in the village.
