Experts from the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) on Monday interacted with members of the South Goa Disaster Management Authority to explore the possibility of designing a software to pin point lacunas in the preparedness of the stake holders to meet emergencies.
South Goa Collector G P Naik said the latest software which would be designed by experts from the NDMA would be able to pin point any lacuna and automatically suggest action.
“NDMA expert Banerjee gave us a presentation on the software and its advantages in meeting any emergencies, specially off site emergencies,” Naik said.
The meeting was attended by the stake holders, including off site disaster management team.
“After deliberations and presentation, we have found that the software will come in handy to meet the emergencies. The presentation was earlier made at the state level. We will submit a detailed report to the state government on the software to make monetary provision for its designing”, Naik added.
The preparedness of the disaster management stake holders had come to the fore last month when a tanker carrying Aviation Turbine fuel turned turtle at Ambora-Loutolim.
It took nearly 17 hours for the authorities to tow away the ill-fated tanker from the spot and exposed the administration’s failure to procure a dedicated heavy duty crane to meet emergencies.
