The State Government is proposing to have renal transplant facilities at Goa Medical College & Hospital.
The health Minister Vishwajit Rane while addressing a press conference on Monday here said, renal transplant facility will be made available in GMC.
Two committees will be appointed — one under health secretary and other will be headed by the director of health services for starting this new facility, he said.
While renal transplant facility will be provided free of costs to Goans the patients from out the State will be charged.
He further said, upgraded facilities of the GMC which include trauma centre, ICU and casualty will be commissioned by March 31 on which the government has spent Rs 18 crores in the first phase.
As also five of the eighteen operation theaters of the GMC have been upgraded.
Whereas in phase II balance work of upgradation of the premier hospital will be done.
With upgradation of the facilities completed, next step would be build renal facility, he added.
The urology unit started three years ago has received good response wherein 5200 patients were admitted and 2700 surgeries conducted, he added.
Clinical Establishment Registration Regulation Bill, 2010 Bill which was introduced in the Parliament will be adopted by the State government.
Once adopted — all clinical establishments whether private and government will come under the purview of new law.
It will also become mandatory for gyms to obtain NOC from the health department once the Act comes into force.
