Offline classes cancelled, students in isolation after 24 test Covid +ve at BITS Pilani

Of 2800 students who reported to campus, nine are single vaccinated, rest are fully vaccinated

VASCO: The South Goa District Administration has ordered COVID-19 tests to be conducted on all the students, teachers, faculty and those who have come in close contact with the affected persons at BITS Pilani campus near Vasco town after 24 cases of infection were reported.

In an order issued on Thursday, Deputy Collector of Vasco Dattaraj Gauns Dessai said that a cluster of 24 cases of COVID-19 have been reported in students of BITS Pilani Goa Campus at Zuarinagar, near Vasco.

Dessai has directed the Registrar of BITS Pilani Goa campus to carry out RTPCR test of all the students, teachers, faculty and those who have come close contact with the affected persons and take every precautionary measure laid down in the COVID-19 protocol so as to prevent spread of the virus.

The District Administration has said that home or Institutional quarantine should be assessed and followed strictly in consultation with health authorities.

As per information, these are isolated cases and the BITS administration has arranged to test primary and secondary contacts of affected persons. Affected persons are isolated in their individual hostel rooms. Classes will be again held in online mode and all kinds of gatherings have been prohibited.

Out of about 2800 students who reported back to the campus so far, nine are single vaccinated, rest all are fully vaccinated.  All cases have been reported to the local health authorities.

Arjun Harlarnkar BITS Pilani Goa PRO on Friday said that testing of the students showing symptoms of Covid are conducted. The infected students are already isolated in their personal rooms. While several other students are inside their respective rooms.

Harlarnkar further added that the situation on the campus is under control and the classes are being held online with physical classes stopped after the Covid-19 infection was detected among the students. He added that the first and secondary sources of infection are being traced, and around nine more students were tested yesterday but their results are yet to come.
