PANJIM: In an attempt to expose Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar’s double standards, the legislature wing of the Congress party carried out a sting operation to establish that the controversial Olacabs whose services the State government claims have been cancelled, is still in operation.
“How can CM have the audacity to make a statement about closing the private service when Olacabs are still available? My youth leader booked a cab online through the website www.olacabs.com and it was at my doorstep to provide the service,” Congress Legislature Party (CLP) spokesman Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco said at a press conference on Saturday.
He circulated printout copies of the online booking and confirmation from the company that a white Maruti Swift Dzire GA-02-K-7599 will arrive near Congress headquarters. The confirmation e-mail to the youth leader also had name of the driver and his mobile number.
Parrikar had recently told a press conference that the government did not give any permission for the cab operators and ordered shutting down its offices in the State in the aftermath of a violent protest by taxi operators on the streets of Porvorim and Siolim this week.
The Corporation of City of Panjim has already closed down Olacabs premises in the city for functioning without a trade license.
Lourenco also disclosed that the cab service was advertising vacancies in Goa for executive accountants, accounts executive among other posts. The Congress, in its earlier press conference had alleged that the private agency was operating with permission only from the tourism department and none from the transport department.
