MARGAO: The Congress leadership might have zeroed in on two veterans – Ravi Naik and Francisco Sardinha — for the North and South Goa Lok Sabha seats respectively, raising many an eyebrow amongst the young faces in the national party.
But, in a rare departure, the party leadership has inducted young blood on a panel to represent the party as spokespersons.
Former Youth Congress president Pratima Coutinho, Sunil Kawthankar, Urfan Mulla, Vijai Bhike and Durgadas Kamat are the new party spokespersons, who will represent the party on various issues at discussion panels.
They will also interact with the print and electronic media from time to time in coordination with the Pradesh Congress office.
In a statement, they said that while people talk of corruption, the biggest corruption is within political system and can eradicated only if more and more youth join main stream politics.
“Young team always have fresh ideas to alleviate certain problem.  We just need the desire to clean the system. Youth need to step in and change it for better. It’s time youth should take the congress party on their shoulder and go ahead. We have been entrusted the responsibility by the Congress and we would all work in a team and set an example for the youth in the state”, they said in a statement.
Young party workers in private admit the Party central leadership should have given one of the two Lok Sabha seats to a young face.
“Francisco Sardinha has been in politics since 1977 and Ravi Naik since the early 80’s. We are now in the 21st century and the party is still dependent on our politicians who have been in active politics for over 30 years now,” remarked a a young Congress worker.
