Old Goa police bust prostitution racket, three accused arrested, 6 victims rescued

Pimps lured gullible victims to Goa on the promise of providing jobs and then forced them into sex trade

PANJIM: The Old Goa police have arrested three persons who were allegedly running a prostitution racket in a dance-bar at the Ribandar-Panjim Causeway and rescued six victims.

According to the police, the accused were identified as Mahesh Babu (38), his wife Kashmira Hegde (24), both from Karnataka, and their accomplice Deepa Shai Thakuri (24), from Nepal.

The illegality carried out in the pub came to light when three of the victims fled from the pub and contacted an NGO who in turn informed the Old Goa police station. The Old Goa police laid a trap and conducted a raid and arrested the accused.

According to the complaint lodged by one of the victims, they were brought to India and then Goa on the pretext of getting them jobs. Then they were detained and thrown into prostitution, police said.

An FIR has been registered against the accused under various sections of the Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act.

The case is being investigated by Old Goa PI Yogesh Sawant.
