PANJIM: The Old Goa Police are yet to zero-in on miscreant/s in connection with the break-in at Se Cathedral even after five days of the incident.
While crucial evidence being digital video recorder (DVR) that could have contained footage of the crime is also stolen away; the investigation team is relying on video surveillance from the surrounding areas to solve the case.
Police sources said that around 15 suspects, including those involved in previous theft cases have been rounded up so far. However, no breakthrough has been achieved.
“The police team is analyzing CCTV footage obtained from nearby locations and rounded up about 15 suspects. More suspects will be summoned for interrogation,” the source revealed.
The Old Goa Police have also quizzed two security guards who were posted on duty on the crime night but in vain. Sources said the two guards at the front gates while the theft took place from the rear portion of the Church.
“No security guard was present in the rear side of the Church from where the accused committed theft,” the source said.
The windows were broken and the window grills were also cut indicating forcible entry into the Church between Saturday night and Sunday morning. Parish Priest Fr Alfred Vaz in his complaint to the police informed the accused decamped with Rs 55,000 cash kept inside the drawers of the table and one DVR unit. First Information Report under Sections 457 (House-Trespass/House-Breaking by Night) and 380 (Theft) of the Indian Penal Code was soon registered.
