PANJIM: To ensure accuracy in metering and reduce losses due to non-functioning meters, Electricity Department has planned replacement of all electromechanical and non-working electronic meters of low tension domestic consumers.
The department said that tenders for this have been floated and the replacement work would begin by this month. “There are 7 lakh meters and 3 lakh meters would be replaced,” Power Minister Pandurang Madkaikar said.
The meters will be replaced under the Central Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Gram Jyoti Yojana (DDUGJY) and Integrated Power Development Scheme (IPDS) for rural and urban areas respectively. “Representatives from Electricity Department along with technician of meter manufacturers will visit each house for replacement of meters. These technicians will carry valid identity cards issued by Electricity Department,” the notice states.
Details regarding existing and new meters, seal details, etc will be collected. Existing meters owned by consumers will be returned to consumers and department owned meters will be carried back by the technicians.
