Women’s Reservation Bill in Parliament was introduced by me: Khalap
Valpoi, Usgao, Khandola and Marcel on Khalap’s campaign run
VALPOI: Former Union Minister and Congress Party candidate Ramakant Khalap, affectionately known as “Bhai” has claimed that it was he who introduced the Women’s Reservation Bill in 1996 but it was not tabled in the Parliament for some reason.
Addressing an election campaign meeting at Valpoi, Khalap said, he was instrumental for introducing Women’s Reservation Bill giving 33 per cent reservation and Common Civil Code.
Khalap also spoke about how he took up the issue of Colvale bridge while speaking during the condolence motion for the former President late Neelam Sanjiva Reddy in the Parliament.
He alleged that Shripad Naik had failed and he had been shifted from one portfolio to another during the last 25 years.
Khalap said that BJP leaders asking for a debate was an excuse and an attempt to divert the people’s attention from the burning issues.
Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) President Amit Patkar spoke about how BJP has failed on all fronts. He said it is the time to gear up for the May 7 elections and he requested workers to launch door-to-door campaign for the victory of Congress candidate in North Goa Parliamentary Constituency.
Khalap started his campaign by seeking blessings at Ajoba Temple at Honda and then had a meeting at Mahendra Patil’s residence. Then they visited Valpoi market where they took blessings in Maruti Temple and also addressed party workers at Ashley Pinto’s house at Valpoi. From there they went to Usgao where they met party workers where party leader Manisha Usgaonkar was present. Then they addressed a meeting at Usgao Panchayat Hall.
Khalap also gathered with party workers at Nanus village in Khandola-Marcel in Priol Assembly segment and had meaningful discussions about community’s needs.
Development works done during last 10 years is just a trailer: Shripad Naik
Naik reads out Modi’s development report card in his campaign; people keep looking forward to North Goa’s issues being raised
PONDA: The BJP North Goa candidate Shripad Naik on Friday said that the development works done in the State so far is just a trailer.
“What Modi ji has done during the last 10 years is just the trailer and the picture is yet to complete. If he wins again the country will witness complete picture of the development,” Naik said while addressing an election meeting held at Savoi Verem in Priol Assembly segment.
He further said, “For youth, the government introduced Prime Minister Kaushal Yojana, Mudra Yojana, Startup yojana, etc. Under Kaushal Vikas Yojana, the government has given training to 1.5 crore youth. For women empowerment, the government ensured that the 33 per cent Women’s Reservation Bill is passed in the Lok Sabha. Under Ujjwala Yojana, it was ensured that all the needy households get gas connections. Different sorts of schemes like Kisan Credit Yojana were introduced for farmers as well,” Naik said.
However people are still looking forward to the MP addressing important regional and local issues of North Goa. Perhaps Naik plans to speak about them later.
The North Goa MP said that he was “proud” that his government elevated more than 25 crore people from Below Poverty Line (BPL) to Above Poverty Line (APL). “Around 80 crore people are still getting free ration from the government. The Centre has sanctioned projects worth around Rs 38,000 crore for Goa during the last 10 years,” he mentioned.
