Canacona: After a gap of a fortnight, a second mother Olive Ridley turtle arrived on the coast of Canacona and left the shore after laying 127 eggs in the wee hours of Thursday. The first one to nest was at Galgibaga Beach on December 24.
The forest guards were on the lookout for approaching turtles and were delighted to witness the second Olive Ridley turtle arrive in Canacona this season at around 1.30am on Thursday.
After the Chelonia laboriously dug its nest and laid its 127 eggs, they were promptly shifted to a nursery where incubation takes place in natural settings until the eggs hatch, Range Forest Officer (RFO) Vikramaditya Naik Gaonkar told Herald.
