Olive Ridley turtle visits Candolim beach shack to lay eggs

CALANGUTE: An Olive Ridley turtle was spotted laying eggs in front of a shack at Candolim beach late on Friday night. 

The turtle, which laid around 80 eggs, was spotted by a worker in the shack. He informed the shack owner who later informed the forest department whose staff visited the spot on Saturday morning and shifted the eggs to the turtle hatching site at Morjim.

There have been sporadic incidents of turtles coming to lay eggs along the Calangute-Candolim stretch during this season with most of the beach shacks being largely deserted over the last two months due to low tourist arrivals.
