CANACONA: Andrea Banigan-McLaughlin, mother of Danielle McLaughlin, who was allegedly raped and murdered in an abandoned field near Devabagh 3 years ago, remembered her daughter on the eve of what would have been her 31st birthday if she was alive.
Speaking to Herald, she said that life has been a horror for her and her other daughters the moment they learnt the tragic death of Danielle, who wanted to make an impact in the world through her voluntary work.
“It’s painful to learn that the case will drag on for at least another two years,” Andrea said.
“Danielle would have been turning 31 this Tuesday,” she said.
“Apart from praying for early closure of the case, I am asking each and every one of you, who reads this, to think of her this weekend and the coming week and do something kind for a random stranger even if it’s just a smile or a hello – you never know the impact that could have on their day,” said Andrea expressing her desire.
“We want Danielle’s birthday not to be forgotten. We may have lost her in an unkindly way but we don’t want that to be remembered. We want the kindness and generosity to continue in her name instead. Let her legacy live on through us all, let’s make her proud,” she desired.
It may be recalled that Danielle McLaughlin, an Irish-British backpacker was found dead at a secluded place at Devabagh with no clothes on her body on March 14, 2017. Police investigating the case swiftly arrested a local youth, who has since been in judicial custody.
In the past, Andrea has openly voiced her displeasure over slow pace of the trial in spite authorities informing her that the case is fast tracked.
