VASCO: Commuters traveling from Vasco and Margao towards Panjim were delayed by a few hours after the major traffic jam at the Cortalim junction on Friday. Even though traffic police were stationed at various spots, vehicles were unable to move for long periods and whenever they could, it would just be for a few seconds before they were forced to halt again.
Various commuters lashed out at the sorry state of affairs which had forced the regular traffic to grinding halt in the evening. Passengers in the buses complained that it took the bus more than an hour just to reach the Verna slope from Aggasaim. Other regular commuters said that this is a daily problem and that the government needs to take drastic measures to address this problem, especially the deteriorating conditions of roads.
Traffic police on duty attributed the delay due to the ongoing concretization of work of one of the roads from the roundabout to Zuari bridge that falls just below the railway bridge.
