Once a medicinal spring, now an eyesore

Kesarval Spring lies in a complete garbage mess

MARGAO: Once a medicinal spring and a traditional picnic spot, the Kesarval spring in Verna has lost all its glory, thanks to rampant development and the careless attitude of the state Government.
Today, the Kesarval Spring lies in a complete mess with garbage strewn all over the periphery of the spring. The spring has a reputation among the locals and the bathers who came from faraway places, of having medicinal properties. It is a very popular spa, where bathers come to wash out ailments once a year by a course of “healing waters.”
Many still believe and research has been conducted which confirm the spring waters possess magical curative properties, which can heal skin and eye ailments.
“The State Tourism Department is not bothered about giving the place a new lease of life.”This place could have been one of the best tourism spots but sadly the tourist office, which was constructed just at the entrance of the spring, is closed for ever” complained Freddy Vas, a local.
“The spring water is used by migrants only to bath and wash clothes. In addition to this, the medicinal spring has turned into a dumpsite where garbage and broken alcohol glass bottles are dumped leaving it stinky and dirty,” claimed Yogesh Narvenkar of History Lovers Group.  Several Xaxttikaars says it is high time the government acts and revives the lost glory of the spring.
