Siolim is prime location for Bollywood and Konkani films shoots; but with the garbage littered everywhere, the village could lose being an attractive location for film shoots.
The spot where the film Singham was shot is also a favourite place for the locals to spend their evenings enjoying the sunset. Such a prime spot is now littered with garbage empty alcohol bottles.
The panchayat has even erected a huge board warning the public not to dump garbage there. However, no one seems to care for the panchayat warning.
The stretch from Kirti School to St Anthony church has become a garbage dump yard, as the residents in the numerous building that have come up along this stretch dispose their waste along the road.
In the absence of designated garbage disposal site, the ever growing population in the village throws its waste wherever it finds some place.
Rita Fernandez, a local, said, “Everyday people throw garbage, but we haven’t caught anyone doing so, so far. And when garbage piles up, we set it on fire. There is no much movement of people along the stretch from Kirti School to St Anthony church, as such advantage of the same, people dispose of their garbage there.”
