Once given Bhumiputra status, it cannot be challenged in court: Progressive Front of Goa

PANJIM: Progressive Front of Goa has said that the once an illegal dweller has been given a status of Bhumiputra, it cannot be challenged in any court of law.

Reacting to the Goa Bhumiputra Adhikarni Bill, Progressive Front of Goa president Adv Hridaynath Shirodkar said that though the government is attempting to regularise illegal structures sprouted on government lands, Communidade lands and even private properties, migrants who have encroached upon these properties illegally but not necessarily 30 years ago but just before April 1, 2019 will be given Bhumiputra status.

Adv Shirodkar said that the Bill do not speak anything about the effect on the court cases filed against such illegal dwellers either by the government or by the private parties. He also demanded to know whether the Goa Bhumiputra Adhikarini Bill will have overriding effect on the Goa Mudkars Act, Goa Rent Control Act, Code of Communidades and other acts and rules as applicable.

Declaring an illegal dweller as Bhumiputra (son of the soils) is an insult to real sons and daughters of this soil, he said.

“We will reach out to every real Bhumiputra in Goa in the coming days,” said Adv Shirodkar.
