MARGAO: Fatorda Police on Wednesday arrested Omprakash Ganpatrai Chan (35), a native of Delhi and was staying opposite the Kadamba Transport Corporation bus stand, for the murder of one 40-year-old Shivappa, a native of Gokark, Katnataka.
Apparently, the victim who had borrowed Rs 50 from Omprakash refused to return the money when asked and this infuriated the accused due to which he murdered Shivappa. The murderous act was committed on December 25, at around 3 pm.
Both the men had consumed alcohol and gone to sleep in front of the shops opposite Biju Bar behind Rebello hospital near the KTC bus stand. At around 3.20 pm Omprakash threw a laterite stone on Shivappa’s head as he was sleeping.
Nobody realized that Shivappa was dead yesterday as being a holiday all the shops in the building were closed. This morning when the shops were opened the body was discovered and accordingly police were informed.
Police checked the CCTV footage of the neighbouring shops and saw Omprakash committing the act yesterday as recorded on the camera and accordingly began searching for him. He was finally found near the District Court and arrested.
Police have booked a case of murder under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code against him and would produce him before the judicial magistrate for remand on Thursday. Meanwhile, the body of Shivappa is preserved for post mortem.
