MARGAO, JAN 25
In a major breakthrough which could lead to the detection of the sensational Nessai murder case, the police on late Tuesday night arrested one Govind Naik (30), a resident of Calconda-Margao in connection with the brutal murder of Multan Bellary, a native of Bellary-Karnataka, whose headless body was found abandoned in Nessai earlier this morning.
Apparently inching closer to the detection of the sensational Nessai murder case, the Maina Curtorim police station in-charge, PI Sidhant Shirodkar informed that Govind has been placed under arrest for the murder of the native of Bellary.
He said that Govind has been placed under arrest following painstaking investigations by the police since the brutal murder. He said that more arrests of accused persons connected with the murder will be effected in days ahead.
While declining to throw more light in the sensational case, PI Shirodkar said that the police has collected sufficient evidence which points fingers to certain persons.
“The accused arrested in the case would be thoroughly interrogated to unearth names of other accused involved in the case”, he added.
Margao sub divisional police officer, DySP Umesh Gaonkar confirmed that Maina Curtorim PI Sidhant Shirodkar has picked up for interrogations one person, but said that there’s a long way to go before the brutal murder case is finally detected.
In fact, sources in the know said police investigations into the sensational murder has revealed that deceased Multan, who was wanted in theft cases in Bicholim and Ponda police station, was lifted from Benaulim by a group of persons in a car, one of whom stands identified by the police.
It is learnt that the police has also recorded the statement of a person under the Cr P C stating the name of the person who had come to take Multan away on that particular night.
DySP Gaonkar, however, said that the police have so far established that deceased Multan was taken away from Benaulim by a group of persons, but the police are still in the process of ascertaining the names of the actual killers who killed Multan in a brutal fashion before his head was chopped off from his body.
Replying to a question, DySP Gaonkar said the deceased used to stay in Benaulim for some days, adding deceased had the habit of changing places during  his eight year stay in the state.
Sources said the case has turned sensitive in view of the fact that names of certain persons have surfaced during the investigations.
The headless body of Sultan was found abandoned at an isolated spot at Nessai along the roadside.
Post mortem examination later revealed that the killers had inflicted as  many as 41 injuries on the body of the deceased.
