One booked for fleecing Rs 1.20 lakh from bank customer

PANJIM: The Old Goa Police have booked a person for allegedly fleecing Rs 1.20 lakh from a bank customer under pretext of updating Know Your Customer ( KYC) details.

   According to the police, one Sameer R Vernekar, a resident of Chimbel, lodged a complaint stating that the accused Sandeep Sharma impersonated himself as an employee of Axis Bank working in its head office at Bandra, Mumbai. 

   Sandeep asked the complainant to provide his email id under the pretext of updating his KYC. However, Sandeep fraudulently debited Rs 1.2 lakh from the complainant, who has an account in the Panjim Branch of the Axis Bank without his knowledge.

   The incident took place on February 13, 2024, police said.

 The Old Goa Police have registered an FIR under section 66 D of Information Technology (IT) Act 2008. Old Goa PI Yogesh Sawant is conducting invesitgations.
