One dead,16 seriously hurt as bus flips

VALPOI: A woman from Kodal-Sattari died, while 16 other passengers were seriously injured when a KTC bus carrying passengers fell on its side at Ambede-Nagargao, Valpoi, on Tuesday morning.

VALPOI: A woman from Kodal-Sattari died, while 16 other passengers were seriously injured when a KTC bus carrying passengers fell on its side at Ambede-Nagargao, Valpoi, on Tuesday morning.
According to Valpoi police, the accident occurred at about 11.45 am when the bus (GA-03-X-0024) was proceeding from Kodal to Valpoi. The bus driver lost control of the vehicle on a steep slope and a sharp turn at Dhave road, Ambede-Nagargao.
Sources informed that all the passengers were reportedly proceeding to Valpoi for shopping, as it was a Bazaar Day on Tuesday. 
Most  of the passengers were from Kodal.
Most of the injured passengers were women, besides two children and two 80-year-old men.
All injured passengers were rushed to the community health centre (CHC) Valpoi in a 108 ambulance, where the doctor on duty declared one passenger, identified as Sushila Gaonkar (45),  dead on arrival.
“Seven passengers were admitted at CHC Valpoi, while seven others were referred at GMC hospital in Bambolim. Two passengers were discharged after administering medical treatment,” said Valpoi PI Sanjay Dalvi.
The passengers who sustained injuries were identified as Shankar Mahanta, Ranjana Gaonkar, Reshma Mane, Tukanda, Nilima Parsekar, Anil Gaonkar, Gulwanti Chorlekar, Mangal Bhalekar, Madan Gaonkar, Chandrawati Gaonkar, Sobatri Jadhav, Laxman Paryekar, Deepak Gaonkar, Sunil Gaure, Narayan Savordekar and Deepak Gaonkar. Valpoi police is investigating.
