One denied bail in Anwar case

MARGAO: The Additional District and Sessions Court, Margao dismissed the bail application of Vally D’Costa of Tilamol Ghotnamoddi, Quepem, who was arrested on the charges of attempt to murder notorious criminal Anwar Shaikh alias Tiger Anwar.

Sessions Judge Vincent D’Silva dismissed the bail application considering the facts of the case, nature of the allegations, gravity of offences and the role attributed to the accused D’Costa.

The court observed that since the applicant had criminal antecedents, the benefit of bail cannot be granted to him. He is involved in serious and grave offence and that there is very likelihood of offence being repeated and that he would intimidate the witnesses. Therefore, considering the severity of the punishment and the larger interest of the public, the bail application was dismissed.

The Fatorda Police had arrested seven persons for allegedly attacking notorious criminal Tiger Anwar near Ambaji junction, Fatorda on February 16, this year.

Besides, Vally D’Costa, the other accused who were arrested were Vipul Pattari of Khareband-Margao, Ricky Hornekar of Curchorem, Harshvardhan Saval of  Mapusa, Sudhan D’Costa of Seraulim and Vijay Karbotkar and Mahinder alias Mayur Tanawade, both from Porvorim.
