PANJIM: A crane driver died in an accident at a construction site at Patto, Panjim. Witnesses said a crane driver, who was toeing a drilling machine under the ground, lost control and fell with the crane in a construction pit which is over 10 meters deep.
Fire personnel and police officials in a joint operation recovered the body which was stuck inside the crane.
The crane was being used at a neighbouring construction site, while after duty hours on the way back, the site supervisor assigned the job of placing the drilling machine under the ground where piling work was under process.
Officials of the construction company said the site was under the control of the contractor and they don’t have anything to do with the accident, though the incident is unfortunate.
Panjim Police Inspector Siddhant Shirodkar said that the police have taken custody of the supervisor and a further inquiry is in process. He further said that the construction agency would be booked for negligence at the site which has led to a death.
