MAPUSA: The Mapusa police have registered a complaint that a 70-year-old man feared drowned after he allegedly made an attempt to end his life by jumping into the Aldona River on Tuesday evening.
According to Mapusa police around 4 pm, one person had suspected to have jumped into the river after keeping his clothes, a suicide note, watch and mobile on the ferry wharf at Aldona.
The incident came to light after the locals informed the police after finding a suicide note. On being informed about the incident, Mapusa police rushed to the spot.
After going through the suicide note, Mapusa Police suspected that the person must have ended his life by jumping into the river. Immediately, a search operation was launched but till late evening the body was not retrieved from the river.
After going through the suicide note and belongings left behind at the ferry wharf, police officials have identified the person as Jaiwant Chari. The Mapusa police are further investigating the case.
