PANJIM: The North Goa District Magistrate has imposed a penalty of Rs 10,000 on a cashew nut dealer for allegedly selling misbranded products. The fine was imposed after taking cognisance of a report filed by FDA sleuths.
According to FDA Director Salim Veljee, the operator Zintex Cashewnut, Food Business Sachin Soni has been penalised for packing and selling misbranded red chillies cashew nuts at his store. “The label of the red chillies cashew nut product did not declare the manufacturing date as well as the date of packaging on its product label, which is in violation of the provisions of the Food Safety and Standards (Packaging & Labeling) Regulation 2011,” he said.
A sample of the cashew nuts was drawn by Senior Food Safety Officer Rajiv Korde and tested at the Food & Drugs Laboratory at Bambolim, confirming the violation.
