MARGAO: Maina Curtorim police arrested Shekhar Yadav (29), a native of Uttar Pradesh, near Sai Baba temple at Borim after he knocked down a couple on a two-wheeler at Patrocino Chapel in Arlem and fled from the scene.
While Zaura Bi Shaikh (50) died on the spot, her husband Nazir Shaikh who was riding the two-wheeler is grievously injured and undergoing treatment at the Goa Medical College and Hospital, Bambolim.
The accident occurred at around 8.45 pm when the couple was returning home to Raia Manora from Margao and a container truck dashed against them and the driver, Yadav fled from the scene. Witnesses to the accident chased him and stopped him at Borim from where he was arrested.
