One held in hit and run case at Varca

The Colva police on Monday arrested one Frank Anthony Rodrigues, a resident of Mullem in Quepem taluka in connection with the hit and run case that claimed the life of Filipe Luis at Varca on Saturday and released on bail this evening.
He said that Frank was driving the Ford vehicle which was allegedly involved in the accident at Varca in the wee hours of Saturday. He said the vehicle is registered in the name of one Ina Barretto, a resident of Cavelossim.
When it was pointed out over allegations that the site panchanama was not carried out properly with drawings on the road, DySP Gaonkar said that if anyone has any doubts or suspicions over the incident, they are free to bring the same to his notice for the purpose of further investigations. Replying to a question, he said the police investigations had revealed that it was a Ford vehicle as the vehicle mirror was found at the spot.
Incidentally, information on the arrest of the driver was not forthcoming from the Colva police nor from the Investigating officer, PSI Gawade. In fact, when Herald contacted PSI Gawde for information, he said the police has arrested the driver, but said he did not remember the driver’s name since he was out of the police station.
It was only when the matter was brought to the DySP Gaonkar that the media finally received the information on the incident.
