One held on rape charge

The Margao police arrested a native of West Bengal for allegedly raping a 19 year old girl from the same state in a city hotel here last night.
The accused Ranjit Sarkar has been arrested by the police after he was trying to flee the state after committing the offence.
Margao police said the accused and the victim came to Goa by train, wherein the former promised to give her a job. The duo staying in a hotel near the old railway station, wherein the accused allegedly raped the victim against her will on the intervening night of September 28-29.
The victim later lodged a complaint with the police in the presence of a city-based women’s NGO, Auda Viegas.
The accused was later nabbed and arrested for rape. The police are investigating.
