One held with demonetised notes worth Rs 2 crore

MARGAO: On Friday while on routine duty at the Thivim railway station, Head Constables Vishram Desai and D S Meena saw a large bag under the lower seat of the summer special train No. 01046 travelling from Karmali to Lokmanya Tilak Station.
When the duo asked the owner to open the bag, he initially refused and when the bag was opened they found that it was full of demonetised notes amounting to nearly Rs 2 crore. There were 19,985 notes of Rs 1000 denomination and 14 notes of Rs 500 denomination which together totalled Rs 1,99,92,000.
The accused Lavu Chavan who is aged 35 years and resident of New Panvel was handed over to the local police along with the seized money for further action.
