VASCO: A driver was injured after two tankers transporting phosphoric acid collided at Dabolim on early Friday.
The accident occurred when both the tankers loaded with phosphoric acid were exiting from the Mormugao Port to the Paradeep Phosphates Limited at Zuarinagar, in the same direction.
On reaching near the Vales junction, Dabolim, the driver of the front tanker suddenly applied brakes to avoid collision within an oncoming two-wheeler and in the process the rear tanker rammed into the front tanker.
With the collision, the cabin of the rear tanker was badly damaged and the driver was trapped inside. He was rescued by the villagers, who stated that there were no casualties and that no phosphoric acid from the tanker leaked and spilled on the road.
The driver suffered injuries to his legs was later rushed to the hospital for treatment. The company sources said that alternate arrangement will be made to tow away the ill-fated tanker which is parked along the roadside after transferring the phosphoric acid into another tanker.
