PONDA: One person was seriously injured in group clashes during the ZP elections at the Caranjal-Parampai booth in Marcaim on Wednesday.
One person was attacked with a chopper, while a spade was struck at an occupant of a moving car, in what is believed to be a long-pending dispute between two groups over an agricultural field at Parampai.
Jaykrishna Naik of Parampai-Marcaim filed a complaint with Ponda police stating that his brother, Navnath Naik was attacked by Vedanand Naik’s brother, Yogesh, with a chopper, near Navnath’s house at Parampai.
On hearing the news, Jaykrishna was rushing in his car to the aid of Navnath, when Vedanand Naik allegedly struck a spade on the windscreen of his car.
Jaykrishna claimed that he along with his son, who was also in the car, managed to escape unhurt. Navnath, who sustained serious injuries, was later shifted to the GMC hospital.
“My brother lost three of his fingers while preventing the chopper from striking his head,” Jaykrishna told media persons.
Three other persons involved in the attack have been also named in the complaint.
Jaykrishna is alleged to have assaulted Vedanand and in retaliation the accused and some members of his group attacked Jaykrishna and his brother, Navnath.
Ponda police is investigating the case.
